Directions: Putting One Foot In Front Of The Other

In this sculpture, no two pair of feet are facing the same direction. They are pointed toward their own particular path. Is it a path with purpose or is it wandering aimlessly?

Aimless or with Purpose?
At first glance, I thought it was aimless, but as I got closer and physically walked through it, I felt that it was more with purpose.  I wish I could feel as solid as these metal limbs, so sure-footed in the direction they wish to travel. Then, I found it. My own path beginning to take shape as I made deliberate steps around the solid masses. To make my way through, my path needs to be my own and not like anyone else.

Stepping on Toes
Sometimes when traveling, we intersect with those that seem to be headed in the same direction and may step on toes. We do not mean to do it, it just happens and we say sorry or excuse me. Can I get to where I am going without stepping on toes? Nope. And I know that mine will get a kick now and then too. It's all part of the journey.  I try to look at these missteps as a reminder to keep following my path no matter what.

A Change In Direction
Can a path change? Of course. It is a choice we all make.  Do we go left or right? Stay on the familiar or take the road less traveled? No matter what we choose, it is our individual journey from point A to B. We may use a detour now and then, but that is ok. I think the important thing is: find your path with purpose. Make each step count.

My path is about to change. I'm heading in a new direction. I just need to put one foot in front of the other to let the journey begin.

Where is your path taking you and are you going there with purpose?

  2. Best of luck on your new path.

I agree that our paths can change. Learning to be conscientious about it is the big thing for me. Choosing the direction instead of being swept up in someone else's direction for me has taken a long time to learn.

Acknowledging from the outset that I will step on toes is a great reminder. It makes it easier to forgive myself when it happens.

    Thanks. Great post.

  3. I love the post. My path is changing as well. I've taken on new challenges this year; things I was too, well, afraid to do before. Afraid of what, I don't know! Failure? I have only benefited in learning more about myself. I've stretched my boundaries realizing I have much, much more room to grow.

So do I go with purpose? Yes. To follow my inner guide (path) without fear.

Good luck on your new path!

  4. Sometimes I wake up in a ditch and a passerby will help me up, get me back on path. It is all about the journey, even if you are covered in mud.

@MissRobin-Thank you! I completely agree- I get swept up in what others *think* I should do. I am just beginning to find the voice of what *I* want to do.

@Barb- I know!! BIF is slowly taking in breath...I feel like it is a sleeping Giant ready to wake up!

@Anne- Thank you so much! Sometimes we get stuck and are afraid to take that first step...but once it is made, it seems it all falls into place.
